St Michael’s Choir

The St Michael’s Church choir leads the congregation in the singing at the 11:00am Sunday Mass each week, and other important liturgical celebrations throughout the year. It animates and encourages the praise of God and assists the faithful to pray with joy, harmony and beauty.

“In the earthly liturgy we share in a foretaste of that heavenly liturgy which is celebrated in the Holy City of Jerusalem toward which we journey as pilgrims… With all the warriors of the heavenly army we sing a hymn of glory to the Lord”. Catechism of the Catholic Church 1090

The Christian faithful who gather together as one to await the Lord’s coming are instructed by Apostle Paul to sing together psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Singing is the sign of the heart’s joy. Thus St. Augustine says rightly, ‘Singing is for one who loves’. He also affirms, ‘One who sings well prays twice’. Great importance should therefore be attached to the use of singing in the celebration of Mass.
